Olive Agdal

Olive Agdal is an improved Moroccan olive variety developed for high productivity, early bearing, and excellent oil quality. It results from national selection efforts to modernize olive cultivation and enhance resilience under semi-arid and irrigated conditions. The variety is particularly valued for its stable yields and fruity, aromatic oil.

Type and Characteristics :

• Fruit: Medium-sized, oval, slightly elongated
• Color: Green turning to deep violet-black at maturity
• Oil content : 20–25%
• Oil profile: Fruity and well-balanced, mild bitterness and spiciness
• Use : Primarily for oil production
• Ripening period: Early to mid-season (October–November)

Region of Cultivation :

• Cultivated mainly in Meknès, Tadla, Haouz, and Beni Mellal regions
• Suitable for intensive and semi-intensive olive farming systems

Soil Requirements :

• Prefers deep, well-drained loamy or sandy-loam soils
• Adapts to slightly calcareous and stony soils
• Optimal pH :0–8.0

Climate and Growing Conditions :

• Climate : Mediterranean to semi-arid
• Temperature: High tolerance to heat and drought
• Rainfall: 400–700 mm/year; irrigation enhances yield regularity
• Sunlight: Requires full exposure for optimal oil formation
