Orange Maroc Late

Maroc Late, also known as Valencia Late, is one of Morocco’s most important late-season
orange varieties, appreciated for its sweet flavor, high juice content, and excellent shelf life. It is
primarily cultivated for fresh consumption and juice extraction, extending Morocco’s orange
season into the late spring and early summer months.
Type and Characteristics :
• Scientific name: Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck
• Fruit shape: Round to slightly oval
• Size : Medium to large
• Peel color: Bright orange, smooth texture
• Flesh: Juicy, sweet, slightly acidic, seedless or few seeds
• Juice content: Very high (over 50%)
• Harvest period: March to June (late variety)
• Use: Table fruit and juice industry
Region of Cultivation :
• Mainly grown in Gharb, Souss-Massa, Tadla, and Haouz regions
• Performs well in low-altitude, irrigated citrus plains
Soil Requirements:
• Prefers deep, well-drained sandy-loam or alluvial soils
• Sensitive to waterlogging and salinity
• Optimal pH : 6.0–7.5

• Climate: Mediterranean to semi-arid
• Temperature: Optimal between 20–30°C; sensitive to frost
• Rainfall: 400–800 mm/year or supplemented by irrigation
